The LAMP For The Week of Nov. 16

Hello Lighthouse Family!
I hope you’re having a great week. Last Sunday we celebrated our Designed To Shine Growth Sunday. If you were not able to be with us in worship, it’s not too late to make your commitment to grow closer to God and each other through Lighthouse. From here on out, you will have the opportunity to unite with Lighthouse (join the church) at the close of worship. Just listen for Pastor Mark or Shannon to offer the invitation and come down front during prayer time.

This Sunday you will have the opportunity to submit your Estimate of Giving Card and/or membership Form. Both will be available again next Sunday so no one misses a beat! You can download the Membership Form by accessing our new web site; print it, fill it out and bring it with you to worship next Sunday. You can get to the form by clicking here. If you have any questions, please send me an email or give me a call at 770-487-3400.

This Sunday during worship we will celebrate in a service of Thanksgiving. As you prepare for worship this weekend, this of all this things for which you have to be thankful!

Here are our results to date from Growth Sunday!
77 total people united with Lighthouse today:
- Profession of Faith/Restoration: 30 (39%)
- Transfer from Other Denomination: 7 (9%)
- Transfer from other UMC: 40 (52%)

Growth Sunday Results as of 11/16:

- Total pledged monthly: $6,789 ($1,566 averaged out weekly)
- 10 families commit to increase giving over last year

- 1 family commits to step up to tithing
- 2 families commit to step up beyond tithing

Here are some of the things coming up in the life of our church:

Christmas Trees Sold By FOCUS YOUTH: Christmas Trees are on sale now until December 1st. This is a fundraiser that will benefit our FOCUS Student Ministry. The youth will receive approximately 50% of the cost of the trees as pure profit. The trees will be delivered December 6th. For more information on the trees, ask a youth or contact Bobby Totten at (770-486-8978). After Christmas, for an additional $10, a youth representative will come and pick up the tree for disposal. Order your tree today!

Family First Holiday Message Series: This holiday season we will take a special look at the role of the family in a new series, "Family First". Whether we're married, single, with or without children – or however we might look at family – the truth remains that we're not here to go through life alone. God wants us to be part of His eternal family. By taking a look at the birth of Jesus and his holy family, we can learn some great lessons about God's design for life. Please make special plans to join us for worship at Lighthouse this holiday season. Here is a quick look at what we'll explore as we ready our hearts, minds, and entire lives for the blessings of Christmas:
. 11/30, Families haring together. Share Sunday in the atrium.
. 12/7, Families preparing together.
. 12/14, Families serving together. Visit by the Lewis Thailand missionary family.
. 12/21, Families playing together.
. 12/24, Families worshipping together.

New Web Site Design: We recently switched our web site to another provider. Take a glance at the new look (still at http://www.lighthouseumc.net/) This required us to rebuild it a little bit and we are still working on the finished product. Any content changes or updates that you can provide for you area of ministry (or just some great pictures you'd like to share) are appreciated. Please send these or any other questions to Pastor Shannon (skarafanda@bellsouth.net).

If you would like to help out with Lighthouse Kids, please contact Pastor Shannon at lighthousesk@bellsouth.net or Tiffany Jordan at jordan5@numail.org.

This will be in place of the regular even gathering since we have many families that will be traveling for Thanksgiving. Due to scheduling of the church Christmas Party, regular gatherings will resume on Sunday Dec. 14 from 6-7:45pm at the Totten’s home. Lighthouse Membership Sunday

Hi Everyone,
As we have been discussing for the last several weeks, we will be opening the church to receive memberships this coming Sunday! Like I mentioned in Monday's email, our two Confirmation Classes already hold memberships in the church. Now is the time for everyone who so desires to unite with Lighthouse and commit to honor God with your time, talents, gifts, service, and witness! In order to help us manage this historic event, there is some information we will need to contact churches where a previous membership was held. Please visit our brand new website, download our new Membership Form, complete it with the necessary information, and bring it with you to worship on Sunday. You can get to the page and download the form by clicking on the following link, or copy/pasting it into your Internet browser:

http://lighthouseumc.net/templates/System/details.asp?id=44774&PID=630054

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this email or call the church number at 770-487-3400.
Blessings,
Pastor Mark

Lighthouse Remembers Our Veterans!

Hello Lighthouse Friends and Family!

As you might know, today is Veteran's Day. Veteran's Day commemorates the Armistice, which is when the Allies and Germans ended their fighting in World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Veteran's Day has taken several forms throughout the years and been commemorated on different days, but the 1978 Congress set it as a state and federal holiday on November 11th. Veteran's Day was also set aside to remember all who have served, and are serving, in the US military.

In a time of war, it is even more important that we remember the men and women who have served our country so valiantly. Please remember those who are currently engaged in the fight for freedom against tyranny and terrorism. Also, say a special prayer for those who have paid the ultimate price to secure and preserve our freedom.

Here is a prayer I found and adapted for Veteran's Day. As you read and pray these words, please think of the commitment and courage of those who have given - and give - so much!

"God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and who laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought; whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war; and whose nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day. We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm's way. Shield them from danger and bring them home safely. Let the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains, the peace that saves. Christ Jesus, hear us! Lord Jesus, hear our prayer!

Have a great day and pray for our nation's veterans, past and present!

Kevin McInturff's Resignation as Youth Director

Dear Lighthouse Family,
On behalf of the Lighthouse Leadership Team, I want to inform you that Mr. Kevin McInturff has resigned as Director of Youth Ministries. Kevin has served faithfully in this capacity since the launch of Lighthouse and I know you will want to share with me in thanking him for his hard work, faithful service, and personal sacrifice. The McInturff family is by no means leaving Lighthouse; he and his family will still be involved with our church, just in a different role.

You may know that Kevin is currently dealing with a tremendous burden in his personal life. His father, who lives in Nashville, TN, is battling cancer and his condition is worsening. Kevin needs the freedom to travel more frequently to be with his family, taking away from the time he can devote to leading our youth ministry. This has been a difficult decision for Kevin to make, but one that seeks to honor his commitment to God, family, and church.

The FOCUS Student Ministry will remain strong and dedicated to touching hearts and changing lives for the youth in our area. Mr. Bobby Totten, who has faithfully assisted Kevin since launching FOCUS, will step up to provide capable leadership. This will offer the students consistency in relationship and ministry through this time of transition. Bobby has boundless energy and great ideas that will be a huge asset to Lighthouse and our community. Please join me in thanking God for providing us a gifted individual who will help guide our students and youth ministry into the future!

As we prepare to move forward, please know that all activities and retreats for the fall are on as scheduled. You can check out what our youth have planned by clicking here to review last weekÕs blog post. In the meantime, if you have a child who is a part of our student ministry, please rest assured that they will receive the care and attention they deserve.

Paul writes in Galatians that we fulfill the law of Christ when we help others carry their burdens. As we consider how we are 'Designed To Shine', this is a perfect opportunity for us to take that responsibility seriously. I would like to encourage you to share your thoughts, prayers, and support for the McInturff and Totten families. 'Family First' is one of our important Lighthouse mantras, so let this be a time when we can make it count for those who we love, respect, and honor in their past, present, and future service.

God Bless,
Pastor Mark Jordan

Fall Small Groups

Hello Everyone,
I sure hope you're having a great week! Now that Labor Day is in our rearview mirror, it's time to get our small groups rolling. We've been talking about them for weeks and it's time to make sure everyone is signed up and ready to get started.

Some of our group offerings have changed since the original distribution of the small group rundown. To register for a group, please send a quick email to the group facilitator as listed on the rundown. This is also important because some groups begin next week where others will not start for two weeks. You can also reply to this message, too, and I will inform the facilitator.
