Kevin McInturff's Resignation as Youth Director

Dear Lighthouse Family,
On behalf of the Lighthouse Leadership Team, I want to inform you that Mr. Kevin McInturff has resigned as Director of Youth Ministries. Kevin has served faithfully in this capacity since the launch of Lighthouse and I know you will want to share with me in thanking him for his hard work, faithful service, and personal sacrifice. The McInturff family is by no means leaving Lighthouse; he and his family will still be involved with our church, just in a different role.

You may know that Kevin is currently dealing with a tremendous burden in his personal life. His father, who lives in Nashville, TN, is battling cancer and his condition is worsening. Kevin needs the freedom to travel more frequently to be with his family, taking away from the time he can devote to leading our youth ministry. This has been a difficult decision for Kevin to make, but one that seeks to honor his commitment to God, family, and church.

The FOCUS Student Ministry will remain strong and dedicated to touching hearts and changing lives for the youth in our area. Mr. Bobby Totten, who has faithfully assisted Kevin since launching FOCUS, will step up to provide capable leadership. This will offer the students consistency in relationship and ministry through this time of transition. Bobby has boundless energy and great ideas that will be a huge asset to Lighthouse and our community. Please join me in thanking God for providing us a gifted individual who will help guide our students and youth ministry into the future!

As we prepare to move forward, please know that all activities and retreats for the fall are on as scheduled. You can check out what our youth have planned by clicking here to review last weekÕs blog post. In the meantime, if you have a child who is a part of our student ministry, please rest assured that they will receive the care and attention they deserve.

Paul writes in Galatians that we fulfill the law of Christ when we help others carry their burdens. As we consider how we are 'Designed To Shine', this is a perfect opportunity for us to take that responsibility seriously. I would like to encourage you to share your thoughts, prayers, and support for the McInturff and Totten families. 'Family First' is one of our important Lighthouse mantras, so let this be a time when we can make it count for those who we love, respect, and honor in their past, present, and future service.

God Bless,
Pastor Mark Jordan

The LAMP for the week of October 26

Hello Lighthouse Family!
Our “Designed To Shine” campaign is underway. Yesterday, Pastor Shannon led us in a discussion on how we are to use out TIME to honor God. As this series draws to a conclusion on November 16, we will be able to make a personal commitment to God as we open up the opportunity for persons to unite with the church in membership and make our pledges for supporting the church with our time, talents, gifts, service, and witness. I hope you will prayerfully consider how God is calling you to grow closer to Him and the church, because He has created you with a Design To Shine!

Don’t Forget that Daylight Savings Time ends this Saturday night. Be sure to reset your clocks and “fall back” this weekend so you get to Lighthouse worship on time this weekend.

Nothing But Nets Youth Outreach: Thanks to everyone who helped make our Nothing But Nets program such a success! We raised enough money to provide more than 100 nets to impoverished families, saving countless lives from the perils of malaria!

All Saints Sunday is Nov. 2: All Saints Sunday is when we remember those who have gone on to be with the Lord during the past year. We will recognize these persons in a calling of names and candle lighting recognition as part of our prayer time during worship on November 2. If you have lost a loved one in the last year, please contact the church office (lighthouseumc@bellsouth.net) with your loved one's name so we can remember all those as part of our All Saints celebration.

Thanks to Everyone who participated in our Trunk-Or-Treat outreach this year!

Growth Sunday Is November 16: Last year we kicked off our Growth Sunday campaign as we each committed to grow closer to God and each other with the commitments we make to God regarding our finances and whole lives. This year, on Growth Sunday, we will be receiving estimate of giving cards for 2009 as well as official memberships at Lighthouse for the very first time! Start prayerfully considering how God is calling you to grow with us according to your Design To Shine.

Lighthouse Kids: Lighthouse Kids will be on hiatus this Sunday as our children and volunteers enjoy worship and Holy Communion together. Lighthouse Kids will resume next week, working on their new program, “TEACH”. Be sure to have your children exit following the offering next Sunday during worship. If you would like to help out with Lighthouse Kids, please contact Pastor Shannon at lighthousesk@bellsouth.net or Tiffany Jordan at jordan5@numail.org.

Pier 345: The next gathering of Pier 345 (our new ministry for children in the 3rd through 5th grades) will be 6:30pm on Friday November 7 at Steve and Susan Johnson's home in Peachtree City. The Johnsons live at 103 Middleton Drive in the Governor's Row subdivision directly across the street from McIntosh High School. For more information, contact Pastor Shannon at lighthousesk@bellsouth.net.

FOCUS Student Ministry: FOCUS Youth will resume regular gatherings this Sunday from 6-7:30 at the Totten’s home. We have many exciting things planned for the fall, so click here to see what’s on the horizon for our FOCUS student ministry. For more information of FOCUS, please contact Bobby Totten at btotten@classicsignature.com.

Watchmen Men’s Ministry: The next gathering of The Lighthouse Watchmen will be 8:00am on Sunday November 30 at the PTC McDonald’s. Following breakfast, the men will head over to McIntosh and do the setup for worship. Make plans for being a part of our October gathering! For more information, visit the Watchmen page, http://www.lighthousewatchmen.blogspot.com/.

Thanksgiving Turkeys Prepared by the Watchmen: Back by popular demand, the Lighthouse Watchmen will be deep-frying Thanksgiving turkeys this year, just in time for your holiday feast. The turkeys will be fried on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, making it possible for you to pick one up before heading out of town or receiving guests for the holiday. The cost for each turkey is $30, with proceeds going to provide turkey dinners for the needy in our community as well as public servants who must work over the holidays. Don't slave over a hot stove this year -- order your cooked turkey from the Watchmen and also help provide a Thanksgiving dinner for others in our community.

Men's Softball: The men’s softball team only has three games left this fall season as they play at 7pm this Tuesday evening at the Meade Softball Complex on Rockaway Rd. just off HWY 74S. Pick up a picnic dinner and come out to support the guys!

Listen to Weekly Worship Online: You can listen to weekly worship online or download them to your computer or favorite portable listening device by visiting: http://www.box.net/shared/k4vr9h4gsw. You can also access it through our blog page by visiting http://lighthouseumc.blogspot.com/ and clicking on the link at the top left of the screen.

Prayer Team: We have dedicated persons who seek to serve and support others in the power of prayer. If you ever have any prayers requests, please email them to prayer@lighthouseumc.net. Also, if you’d like to serve on the prayer team, please contact Pastor Mark at lighthousemj@bellsouth.net.

Great Things Are Happening!
